The great tusker of the Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth) carrying the scared tooth relic of Lord Buddha stands at the entrance of the temple during the Esala Perahera festival in Kandy, about 120 km (75 miles) from central Colombo August 24, 2010. The festival also known as Dalada Perahara is one of the biggest Buddhist celebrations in Sri Lanka where devotees pray for rain to cultivate their crops. The festival features a nightly procession of Kandyan dancers, fire twirlers, traditional musicians and elephants and draws thousands of spectators from around the country.
